The Greater Cincinnati Harmony Festival is a unique and comprehensive a cappella harmony music program for young women and men. June 19-22 are the dates for the 2013 Harmony Festival, the eighth time this kind of event has been held in the Greater Cincinnati area. All the classes, rehearsals, and performances will be held on Miami University's Oxford Campus, about 30 minutes northwest of downtown Cincinnati.
Based on the first seven Festivals' resounding success, ALMOST the same schedule will prevail in 2013, and features overnight lodging for the students in one of Miami U's fine dormitories.
Day-camper registrations are also available. Registration and dorm check-in will be WEDNESDAY NIGHT to give you a full day of music on Thursday!
If you're a junior high or high school student who likes to sing, you'll love learning the intricacies of singing four-part a cappella harmony in the Barbershop style. It's a style of singing that can be applied to all types of music - contemporary hits, show tunes, oldies, country, spirituals, and more.
What You'll Learn
In three days, you'll get professional vocal music education, rehearsals, and coaching by top music educators and barbershop experts. You'll learn harmony basics, singing technique, choreography, and performance skills. You'll star in a Show with other award-winning barbershop singers on Saturday night - a Show that is open to your family, friends and the public. Perhaps best of all, you'll meet lots of other young women and men who enjoy singing.
Once you register for the Festival, you will receive sheet music and a learning CD for four songs - three songs will be sung in a Young Women's Chorus or Young Men's Chorus, depending on your gender, and one song will be sung in a big Combined Chorus. Of importance, you'll be expected to know these songs in a voice part of your choice before the Festival. Register as early as possible so you will have plenty of time to learn your music. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
